Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Real deal italian on DI. Nice complimentary valet. Casual dress ok and a great open kitchen atmosphere. Amazing baked stuffed mushroom appetizer coupled with the best lasagna I have ever had made for a great meal. Very expensive but worth it.

We decided to stop here for lunch on the way to Pawleys Island since a traffic jam took us off the road and it was either this place or another craft beer/food place down the street. We were starving and had already walked to this place so we decided to try it out. It seems like they are just starting to serve lunch, as an advertisement led me to believe, and they had a pretty limited lunch menu. I had an Italian cold cut sandwich, which was ok, but the peppers had too much oil and vinegar on them and rather than compliment the meat, it overpowered it. My fiancé had the spaghetti and meatball, which was actually pretty decent. Maybe South Carolina water is really different from Boston, but their water tasted like pond water. Aside from the food, what is with the decor? In one room it looks like it's trying to be a Tuscany-like Italian place, another room like a cafeteria, and the bar room like a tavern. It doesn't really seem to have a central theme, so it just kind of leaves you confused. Overall, it wasn't a bad meal, but if I'm in the area again, I'm going to try the craft beer/food place down the street before coming back here.

Fantasic! The service was excellent and the food is some of the best I've had in a long time. I live on Daniel Island and this is easily our best restaurant in town. I haven't had a bad experience here or a bar meal. I encourage anyone to dine here. It's not the most kid friendly spot so I would leave them with a sitter. Overall, my go to place for higher end Italian.

Pricy, very. Food is good but not for the price. Service is a little slow, and not as attentive as it should be. Now that I've said all that, not a bad place. Had a small issue but was taken care of by server and apologies by the manager. If you're looking for Lili Italy like NYC, not here, but worth the time to try this place. Give it a shot, they try harder to please, and do. Frank G

Been to Lidi's twice now and plan on trying it again. All in all, a nice place. Service was spotty early on so anxious to see if they worked out the bugs and have the staff better trained and in synch. After being seated it took a long time for us to get our drinks. Sure, there were others in the bar, but it just seemed like a long time. I'm a fan of Manhattan's. This one came with one large cube (interesting) but the flavors were off. Didn't enjoy it at all. The food was good and the portions were good. Looking forward to trying it again and exploring the menu a bit.

So, we ate here before the Boston concert tonight. Ordered the beef carpacchio, which was just OK. The got the veal and beef meatballs, which were filling, but very bland. Both appetizers. Then an order of mussells Bianco. Just so so. Two glasses of wine for my husband and one for me. No main courses. $75. Have had much better Italian for this price. Don't think we will return. Not terrible, but not memorable.

There has to be a better Italian restaurant in the Charleston area. It wouldn't take much. I am from St.Louis, MO where "The Hill" neighborhood is located, established by Italian immigrants and with numerous Italian restaurants. But even the Pasta House chain has this place beat. This is my 2nd time to try this place, my families 3rd, all of our last time. I usually don't write negative reviews, please see my other ones but this needs to be said. I am on Daniel Island visiting my niece's family. We had 3 adults, 3 children, we got seated quickly since it was not crowded at the time and after 5 minutes a man stopped by and quickly stated he would be back in a few minutes. It was a lot more than a few minutes and during this time there were 3 waiters standing around in front of the kitchen area doing nothing. No one brought us water, they all acted as if we didn't exist. Finally that same man came back who happen to be our waiter. He didn't bring water or bread the first time nor this second time he came to the table. We should have walked out but the children were hungry. Since we had plenty of time to look over the menu, we order apps and entrees right then. We finally got our waters and 2 glasses of wine, we were never asked for wine refills nor did the waters get refilled until we had finished eating. Now for the food, my veal Parmesan and noodles were tasteless, the breading and veal over cooked, a minute amount of sauce. I was told the chicken Parmesan was not any better. The Tagliatelle and chicken sausage was suppose to come in a cream sauce, it came out with no sauce or a slight amount of oil. The waiter was told and he took it back to the kitchen. When the new came out the cream sauce per my niece did not taste good and it looked watered down. The calamari and fried mozzarella apps were not any better. The manager did come over to apologize to my niece about her dished served incorrectly but did not offer the meal for free or free dessert or anything. A lot of restaurants I've been to try to remedy the situation so you might come back. We were finishing up our meal and a waitress from another section had the nerve to tell my niece that her kids were to noisy, that an older couple setting close by complained. I will tell you first hand our family will not tolerate noisy, fussy or kids running around in public places. One of us adult will always take one of children out for a walk if that becomes the case. My 6, 5 and 2 year old great nephews and niece stayed in their seats the whole time being very patient on waiting for their food. My nephew in law spoke with the manager afterwards who didn't apologize for this waitress but said it was the table of men behind us being loud. He also admitted he didn't like the way my niece's 2nd dish turned out, Weird then why serve it???

The place you want to love. Daniel Island needs this place. I took my family here tonight and had an enjoyable meal with a few exceptions. Our server certainly knew her stuff right down to the olive oil. I was disappointed that she didn't question when the kitchen sent out a spaghetti bolenese and it clearly didn't have a drop of tomato sauce in it. It was basically a bowl of spaghetti with ground beef. not cool but the rest of the entrees were very good Clams ragu was excellent although you would expect it to be served with pasta well yes but they don't tell you that will be an extra $4. Their Pesto dish was a red sauce and not green? Maybe it's a new way of cooking Italian. The chicken parm is always good and the scallops with coccus was a hit. Try it especially if you are a local. Parking is very easy with a valet.

I'm sorry to give this place two stars, but let me start by saying this is exclusively based on my lunch experience and I went the first week they started serving lunch. I'm hopeful they'll make some serious changes to their lunches as a result of feedback. I'll start with the good part of the visit - the food was excellent! It was some of the best Italian food I've tasted. I ordered spaghetti and meatball (as in a singular meatball) and my friend ordered the chicken penne. Both were very good and ingredients seemed to be very high quality. The service was good, but not great. We expressed interest in sitting in a booth and the hostess said we weren't allowed to. I sat with an empty glass for awhile and when we nicely brought up some of the criticisms we had to our server, he didn't seem to catch on that we weren't happy. The portions are as small as a regular size frozen meal. It was shocking. $11 for a small bowl of pasta and one meatball. We asked about bread and were told that it only comes with dinner. Seriously? You're serving pasta and sauce and you're not even giving people bread to dip into the sauce? We both ate every single crumb of food (minus the leftover sauce, since licking our bowls would've been rude) and we left unsatisfied. Neither of us are huge eaters, but the portions were just that small. Now the prices - Lidi needs to realize that their demographic is different for the lunch crowd than it is for the dinner crowd. Most of us who eat lunch on Daniel Island are the workers - the people who don't live in big houses on golf courses. With Blackbaud, Benefitfocus and various other firms on the island, they could be a big draw for lunch, but they're targeting the wrong audience. With my drink, which I guess was around $2, plus taxes, my bill was $14 and change. With a $3 tip, my lunch ended up costing $17 and change. That's ridiculously high for lunch for one person. Until Lidi adds bread to the lunches, serves bigger portions, brings their prices down a bit, and gives people a booth if it's empty and we ask for it, I won't be back.

Great Italian food. Very fresh, wholesome ingredients. I am a huge meatball critic, as I think my homemade ones are the very best and every other meatball I've tried has not compared. However, I was very pleasantly surprised at their delicious meatballs! They're a MUST try! The olive oil they serve with their crusty, warm bread is specially made just for Ristorante LIDI. My husband has the eggplant parm and he said it's the best he's had. You must try this place!

For a last minute reservation I didn't expect much, but pun arrival everyone was so attentive. From the valet, our waitress, to the server. The waitress really wowed me when she took the time to ask our names and remembered! The food was good, I love how the kitchen is set up and how each plate is "reviewed" by the chef before it goes out. Like I said just an all over great dining experience. Will defiantly patronize in the future.

The bone in grilled veal chop, service and wine selections were excellent. I love parties, New Years and Italian food, so when I was invited to a New Year's party at Lidi I jumped on it. After a quick drive to Daniel Island, I arrived at Lidi where a very polite valet parked the car. The New Year's layout and ambiance were festive, but not overly formal, so I felt comfy and grabbed a good vodka drink from the bar. I was impressed with the Italian wine selection; there was a substantial cellar across from the bar. Lidi even had one of my favorites, a Barbera. The wine selection is worth exploring. Starting with the main course served close to the new year, I had a medium rare veal chop, bone in and it was grilled perfectly, with ample caramelization. I like tasting the meat, and was pleased it was not awash in experimental sauce. The clams and linguini, a standard, were fine, with al dente pasta and an unobtrusive wine sauce in which I could actually taste the succulent clams. I am from Maine and a brusque critic of lobster; the bisque was tasty, but not exceptional. Prior to the meal a delicious sesame bread was served with good Italian olive oil, which I loved. From what I have gathered Lidi is in transition, and a new chef is on the way, but the solid service, main course and wine selection will bring me back.

Pros: Server was nice, space between tables, starter bread was warm. My tastebuds were able to take the night off. Cons: Everything else. Overpriced and no taste. How do you mess up pasta dishes? Less than mediocre and costly. So far to go. Should just scrap current menu and hire a former sous chef from any other restaurant in the area and start over. Decor looked like a fake 90sTV set of a generic Italian restaurant. Will try again it they overhaul and will gladly remove this review.

We have been looking forward to our 1st visit to Restorante LIDI (Little Italy Daniel Island). First off, the service was really attentive and the server knew the menu like the back of her hand. She made a few suggestions and we ended up choosing a couple of them. We ordered the eggplant appetizer that was quite delicious and a definite recommend. We also tried the sausage stuffed mushrooms. These were decent but very under seasoned. My wife decided on the Bolognese for her entree and I went with the mussels. She was somewhat underwhelmed with her choice and I took a small taste and would agree. I however really enjoyed the Mussels, they were cooked perfectly and the broth was fantastic. I will say that I was slightly let down by the small size. It seemed like more of a lunch portion. All in all, a pretty good visit to R-LIDI. We may go again, but if so we would take the kids. It seems to lend itself to more of a family atmosphere, rather than a date night destination. Although I probably felt like this only because it's so darn bright inside. In fact, if I had a single recommendation for LIDI it would be to turn the lights down a little bit. At least in the later dinner time hours.. Enjoy.

What an amazing place to DINE! We arrived on the island the day after our wedding and were treated like royalty!!! Our server, Travis, was very helpful in choosing the best dishes and wine pairings. We hope to end our week of celebrating with them as well. Go hungry, leave happy. Ps. Love the free valet right out front!!!

I went on a Sunday, excited to try LIDI out for the first time. While I didn't know that there was a separate menu, I was quickly and politely educated on the family style operations by the host that guided me to my seat. Waiting on my dinner guests, I decided to start with a glass of wine. Perusing the drinks menu, I was a little non-decisive. Travis, the bartender, recommended a Super Tuscan that truly nailed what I was in the mood for. Perfectly balanced to compliment the also perfectly balanced focaccia and exclusive EVO blend; the focaccia was not too salty and the EVO wasn't too peppery. "Family style" certainly became apparent as I met "new friends" who raved about dishes they'd had previously and the friends they had met there. The bartender brought me over the rest of the menus from the week, explained how the various dishes were prepared, invited me back to experience the weekdays, and my "new" friends and I made a tentative date to rejoin as family on a weekday. (I'm a huge fan of antipasto plates - they way that they have theirs offered - so smart - pick what you want or take it all - this will be my every dinner opening act.) Not only was I greeted warmly from the time I walked in, but the team was actually consistent through my entire two hour experience. I met the manager, Scott, and other members of the staff smiled and greeted me (and my new buddies - obviously regulars) with actual enthusiasm. I'm very particular about service and food, as there are so many choices in the city; I opt not to offer all of the potentially negative points that I find in my travels, as it would make me seem overly picky. (Which may actually be the case) I try out spaces well before I invite clients or other family members, as they know how I can over-analyze an experience into being maybe not-so-fun. In those cases, I just don't return. In this experience, however, the team nailed my needs and exceeded my expectations. I will be comfortable bringing clients there as I continue to enjoy what LIDI has seemed to be offering.... Knowledgeable service; good, comfortable company; fresh, tasty food that isn't overpriced, over salted and is allowed to stand on its own. Well done, LIDI, I look forward to joining the family again soon. Keep up the good work. (please)

The food is so authentically Italian as is the atmosphere! I love the service and the live music!!! We will keep coming back!

My family and I have enjoyed ourselves every time we come. The owner has personally introduced himself, which made our experience special. The staff are always happily willing to cater to any requests or special orders we have. The food itself is prepared exactly as deliciously described in the well balanced Italian menu. The decor is pleasantly charming with heavy accents of classic Italian red. I must go back to the staff as well, who are happy, helpful, attentive, and all around fantastic. If you find yourself looking for dinner on the island do yourself a favor and take a look at this Little Italy on Daniel Island.

Very good Italian food. I had the soup of the day, lobster bisque. It was very good w chunks of lobster. Even better was the winter capresse salad served w creamy burrata and sun dried tomatoes. One of a kind. The linguini w clams was classic, good sauce plus whole clams served on top. My entree was langoustine served over risotto. The presentation was beautiful! One shrimp w the head on and three of the biggest shrimp I have ever seen. My dad ordered rare steak and it was cooked perfectly. Our waitress was friendly and service was timely. It's worth the drive from Charleston for good Italian food. I will definitely go back for more.

I would like to first congratulate the new owner of LIDI for adding valet service. I don't know how any restaurant can make it in that location without parking. The wine and service were great. We ordered Famiglia Pasqua Passimento.I liked it so much I went home and ordered a whole case. I wasn't a fan of the olive oil, it was a bit strong for my under developed tastebuds. The wedding soup is not as traditional as my family makes, but the unique asian fusion/citrusy taste will make it a go to item for me when I return. (sorry Mom) Our main course was big enough to share but it didn't hit the mark. We will try something else next time. There were so many other appetizing items on the menu we will definitely be back.

I have yet to get back for Sunday Gravy (it's on the todo list), but I have attended a couple of their wine dinners and they have been fun events and great experiences. We have met some new friends and discovered great wines. All of the staff have been wonderful as well.

The service is great. Slow, but great. The 1 star belongs only to our waiter. Everything about this place is pretentious. Grab hold of yourself, this is going to get ugly. The cliffs: Don't eat here. First of all, I'm honestly concerned about the sanitation practices here. Our table was right in front of the open kitchen and food staging area. I watched for 2 hours as what I assumed to be the manager walked around the restaurant, shaking hands, dealing with menus, touching the register, going in and out of doors. He never washed his hands. This normally wouldn't be a big deal, except this is the man who garnishes the plates before they are brought to your table. I watched time after time as he came over and seasoned plates with bare hands. Littering and contaminating every single plate that left the kitchen with the filth of his hands. Disgusting. On top of that, he was "generous" with his interpretation of seasoning. I watched him pour oil on my plate. My pork chop was FLOATING in olive oil. It contaminated my baked potatoes and just ruined the whole meal (what little of it there was for $27). Adding (completing?) to the overall poor experience was the food. I paid for the description of a "thick cut bone in pork chop." What came to me was a 1/2 in thick hunk of pork chop with a sliver of bone in it. It was dumped on a pile of mashed potatoes that lacked any sort of flavor beyond the aforementioned olive oil. The theme continued on the all of our dishes. Dripping in decorative oil and random greenery on all 3 entrees. The baked chicken was dry and lacking. I didn't try it, but a large portion of it left with the clearing of the table and we didn't ask for a to-go box. The chicken Parmesan was just plain bad. They took a chicken breast and flattened it to the size of a pancake. It was more bread than chicken. The pasta was obviously under cooked and the sauce was flavorless. I had a bowl of chicken soup that was so salty that I seriously think a mistake was made and someone spilled something into the cooking pot. What a waste. I seriously felt angry when my bill for 3 people totaling over $128 arrived at the table. I knew I had just been taken advantage of to the point of wanting to not pay and just walk out. Our server was the only thing that kept me from doing just that. The guy was really cool, so I didn't want to screw him. WAY overpriced. A significantly better meal could be had for 1/3 the price at Carrabba's. Not kidding at all.
(1)Sue G.
Very disappointing. Very pricey and not very good. Lamb chops over cooked. Crab ravioli didn't taste like crab was in it and undercooked. Clam linguini and lemon shrimp penne with both more like a soup. Only one other table being served. I know why.
(1)Michelle D.
I know it is a new restaurant so I will give them the benefit of the doubt but I wasn't impressed whatsoever. The Caesar salad had a lemony flavor that threw off the flavoring of the Caesar dressing. It just wasn't what I was expecting, I guess. My friends ordered the veal Parmesan and Pasta with Sunday gravy (a fancy way of saying spaghetti with meatballs). I ordered the chicken Parmesan. The veal was chewy, with not much flavor. The pasta I'm told was 'okay' but my friend said he could have made better pasta with store bought groceries. My chicken parm wasn't bad but again didn't have much flavor. I gave it two out of five stars mainly because the price for what you get is simply not worth it. And, again, not much flavor in the main dishes. The staff was super nice and the wine was good but besides that, I won't be returning.
(2)Mer T.
I was really hoping to like this place! Third time eating here has confirmed all of their chicken dishes just taste like oil. Service was slow twice, and I'm just not a fan of paying quite a bit of money for terrible food. Chicken Parm-oil, Chicken picacta-oil SO SAD!!
(1)Corinne A.
Food & service was great! We went early so no reservations. Waitress Faith was nice & attentive. Hubby Had the daily special soup which was good; rustic bread & olive oil authentic. I had the clam ragu which was awesome. Fresh clams & yummy fresh sausage in perfect lemon/white wine sauce. Too full or would have finished with the tiramiso. Best Italian I've had in Charleston!
(5)Brittany R.
Ristorante LIDI has truly brought a family friendly dining option to Daniel Island. I've dined twice now at LIDI and can truthfully say not only can they serve a hearty Italian meal, but the seafood options are also incredible. The mussels, calamari and salmon are all delicious, as is the chicken marsala! If you can save room for dessert I highly suggest the tiramisu or an ABC (amaretto, baileys, and coffee drink topped with whip cream.). If you're seeking a new restaurant to try in the Charleston area put Ristorante LIDI at the top of your list!
(5)Andreas K.
Well, this place is fairly new so it may get better, but right now it is pretty much a below average restaurant that is well overpriced. I don't mind paying for good food at all but this place is just not a high end restaurant from a food perspective. Two of our three got the Cesar salad and it has a lemon flavor, it was interesting, and putting your twist on something is fine, but this was not good. The salad was ok, not terrible, but it was 8ish dollars for a small salad so really it should be better. The other person in our group ordered the Caprese, it was fine, even though it was not a lot and again 8-9 dollars. I ordered the "pasta with sunday gravy" which was basically spaghetti and meatballs with sausage. It was good. The "Sunday Gravy" did have a distinct taste and I liked it. My two friends were not as lucky... One ordered the Chicken Parm over pasta, and it was about the same as a frozen dinner. She even said that most frozen dinners have more flavor. In short, it was plain and not worth 15+ dollars. My last friend was the worst, she ordered the "Veal Parm over pasta" It was terrible, she actually had to spit a piece out, which was pretty embarrassing to her. It wasn't cooked right so she didn't eat it. We stopped at publixs and got her ice cream. Pros: My friend's wine was good. My entree was good, perhaps even worth the price... maybe. The service is good, no complaint at all about our waitress. It's on DI where I live and we don't have many places to go here. **The mural on the side is awesome, and I saw a girl painting it by hand... worth seeing if you are on the Island** Cons: Everything else. Again, it's new, I will try it again if it is open in a year, but I am not endorsing it at the moment at all. **note** The bread is a very hard crusted bread, which is authentic for true Italian food, not a complaint, just a note... I am giving it 1 star because my friend couldn't eat her meal. That's a deal breaker.

Completely enjoyed lunch at LIDI's! As a DI Resident, I am happy to say that this restaurant is improving every day. Lunch was spectacular. Sandwiches were piled high with tasty Italian classics. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his sausage and pepper sandwich and I found the chicken parm equally as generous and very tasty. Service was efficient and attentive and yes, we were offered bread with our meals although as carb counters, we resisted. The new chef has made a world of difference in neighborhood nugget. We will definitely be back "often" as you can't beat LIDI if dining on Daniel Island as the combination of excellent food at a modest ($9) sandwich options make it a great pick.
(5)Lauren T.
Service was great, atmosphere was great, and food was great! Can't wait to go back and try new dishes!
(4)Karen D.
Tried this place 3 times though I would give it a fair shot .. However 3 bad meals is enough .. Sad the place is great looking well done decor and great location ...
(1)Melissa W.
The overall dining experience at Lidi was great and kid friendly. The service and food were excellent. Lots of options on the menu and they will make changes to the dish if requested. The option for family style is great if you want to try different entrees. I loved the spaghetti & meatballs and if you have room for dessert the Bomba is delicious.
(4)Cassie C.
Our third visit to LiDI on a rainy night served up excellent service and good company. Nice beer and wine selection, fantastic Caprese salad and a warm atmosphere. Husband ordered the pork osso buco that was tender and delicious. I got the shrimp scampi which was okay, a bit under seasoned and one dimensional. Not bad, the Sunday gravy and other dishes at LiDI are better options. Great service, great atmosphere, just not the best scampi. Absolutely recommend.

I moved here from Long Island, NY and we were VERY excited to try this restaurant but it was pretty disappointing. The wait for our table was disorganized and long. The manager seemed pretty clueless about when we could even get our table (that we had reservations for). The vibe of the place was definitely not genuine, and come to the food finally-- WAY too salty. The calamari was over-breaded and BLAND (worst I have had in Charleston). If you are looking for a real deal, authentic "Little Italy" restaurant, this place is not for you.
(1)Allan B.
Went on a Saturday night , had reservations for 830 very crowded , we got a table around 9. The wait was well worth it. Had some of the best Italian food around. All at the table agreed . The waiter josh was very polite and knowledgable about the menu. Look forward to going back
(5)Pat H.
The food was Fair to OK. The second star was for the service, not the food. I was very disappointed as I expected better. Living in the Charleston area one expects all restaurants to be great. It appears this eatery is hanging their hat on the fact they have a captive audience here on the Island. I recommend heading to Mt Pleasant or downtown Charleston for an enjoyable Italian eatery.

I have never written an online review but felt obligated to do so. This was my third and final attempt at this restaurant. The last one was the worst dining experience we have ever had in the greater charleston area. My first 2 attempts were just ok however I heard they made some changes so decided to try it again as our family loves to support DI businesses. The waiter was nice however inattentive. Then the food was very poor for all of our party of 6 entrees. My entree was made incorrectly with the wrong pasta sauce, which happens, no big deal. When I then pointed this out to the waiter and manager they both apologized however the second time around was no better. The bigger issue was what happened with regards to our family which made it clear that this is also not a family friendly place on a island full of young families. My kids have eaten at much "nicer" places (Fig, charleston grill etc) and were clearly not welcomed at this restaurant. There are too many great restaurants on this island with great food, and service. We will never return. Go to Vespa for better Italian and a more welcoming environment for families.
